Anna, Ben, Luke & Me – Mother’s Day 2015

Hi! I’m Laura and this is my blog on thrifty buying, savvy shopping, tips on how to save money, do it yourself projects and more. I’m in my mid/late thirties, have a BS and MS in Mathematics and used to be a full time math teacher at a community college in Rhode Island. Now I live near Cologne, Germany (and upstate NY) with my husband Thomas, our daughter Anna and twin boys Benjamim and Lukas. Since we had Anna I’ve become a stay at home mom, full time maid (just kidding but it feels like that sometimes!), amateur seamstress, gardener, cook and baker. I love to knit and sew, write my other blog: The Artful Gardener, travel, study mathematics, read the classics, watch mystery and detective series (like Poirot, Matlock and Sherlock Holmes) and create things at home. I also love to spend time with my family, hiking, biking, swimming and generally being outdoors. I love going to second hand stores, thrift shops, flea markets and antiquing. I love finding a really good deal, haggling to get a good price and finding unwanted stuff that people are giving away for free, fixing it up and making it usable/desirable again. So follow my adventures as a spendthrift through this blog and hopefully you’ll pick up some tips on how to save money and do it yourself along the way!

Hi: I’m an editor for About.com Home, and am working on an article about Ikea outdoor hacks. I’d like to link to your DIY featuring the planter made from Ikea bed slats. Let me know if this is Ok…asap!
    Thanks, Lisa
